The Allegra Quartet started in January 2005 - it arose from the The Fancy Fiddlers, a youthful club of violinists led by Coosje Wijzenbeek.
In April 2005 the quartet won the second prize at the International Charles Hennen Competition in Heerlen. From March 2006 till May 2010 the quartet studied at the Dutch String Quartet Academy.
In addition to the regular lessons by Stefan Metz, the founder and director of the NSKA, the quartet followed master-classes with Richard Young (Vermeer Quartet), Isabel Charisius (Alban Berg Quartet), Thomas Brandis (Brandis Quartet), Nicolaj Znaider and many others. In January 2008 they had a masterclass with the Tacaks Quartet in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. In September 2008 thet were invited by the Italian Music festival Ancona to give lessons and concerts. The quartet performs regularly within the Netherlands, as well as abroad.
